For Dogs Sake – Put Down That Cigarette

dog smoking

Its A Dogs Life…Or is it?

You get in from a hard day at work, your boss has been on your back all day, you spilt coffee down your new shirt and to top it off Dave got employee of the month again for the third month running. Yes Dave, the guy who makes sure his tie and socks match in the morning and talks about nothing but Big Brother. Suddenly Max, your four legged friend, comes darting down the stairs and greets you, his tail going round in circles like a miniature wind turbine. You sit down with your little companion and all of a sudden you find everything seems ok again. You walk to the kitchen, stick a pizza in the oven and then throw your brown stained shirt in the wash. Time for a well earned cigarette.

Right, ok, smoking is bad for you, you get it!!! You have seen all the posters and anti-smoking adverts going and to be honest you don’t care…you have been smoking for 20 years, live alone so are not doing anyone any harm to anyone but yourself, and enjoy the ‘occasional light up’. What’s wrong with that? The thing is you don’t live alone do you? What about Max?

Many smokers are now well educated about passive smoking and the health implications smoking around others can have but they often forget about their pets. Studies have shown that second hand smoking can be more hazardous to our furry friends than to us as the toxins that are released through the smoking process into the air can come in contact on the pets fur and skin. As we all know animals clean themselves by the process of licking their fur which results in the tar and nicotine entering the digestive system each and every time they have a ‘wash’.

As Sick As A Dog:

Research shows us that your pet is at high risk from the following if you continue to smoke around them:

  •  Cancerdog coughing
  • Respiratory Problems
  • Allergies
  • Skin Diseases
  • Diarrhoea
  • Eye Infections
  • Vomiting
  • Salivation

It’s hard to believe that anyone who is aware of the potential dangers they are putting their beloved pets in just by having a cigarette would continue to smoke around them.

What Steps Can You Take To Protect Your Pets Until You Quit?

Even if you wish to continue to carry on smoking, you owe it to your pet to clean up your act so to speak. Make sure you minimise the risks by:

  • Smoking outdoors in a large open areawash hands
  • Wash your hands after smoking before you touch your pets
  • Change your clothes after smoking
  • Keep ashtrays constantly clean
  • Make sure you discard your cigarette properly. This also includes any nicotine gum and patches you may be using to try and quit

Is Your Dog Smoking 15 A Day?

Scottish scientists have discovered that some smoker’s dogs are forced to inhale the equivalent of up to 15 cigarettes a day. By examining the coats of 38 dogs that are owned by smokers, the amount of nicotine found in the dogs coats ranged from 1mg to 11.3mg (1 to around 15 cigarettes daily). A professor who regularly treats dogs with cancer said “People will often bring their pets in, smelling of smoke, and they are still not making the link with smoking”. Treatments for a dog with cancer can cost in excessive of £4,000 and it is not uncommon for a high percentage of people who are faced with this enormous cost to have their dog put down because they can’t afford the bill.

The War On Electronic Cigarettes Part 2

e cig war part 2

Continued…

When I wrote ‘The War On Electronic Cigarettes’ I didn’t plan on writing a part 2 however after the recent article from the BBC titled “electronic cigarettes – miracle or menace?” and the new planned EU Tobacco Directive I felt I had no choice.

Why All The Negative Press Attention?

bad press

It seems like the electronic cigarette is the small, skinny guy at school who is constantly getting picked on and getting its lunch money stole from by the bullies, which in this case is the Tobacco industry. The main argument against e cigs is the lack of research that has been undertaken due to the fact they have not been around very long, however this is also true of a lot of household and personal favourite devices in which we own. I am sure most people reading this will all own a microwave and mobile phone, as well as having Wi-Fi installed in their homes. Why is this relevant? Well the same question can also be asked of these, yet I don’t ever recall seeing stories entitled “The Microwave – miracle or menace?” In fact it’s quite the opposite with many seeing the rapid food heater as one of the best inventions of modern times. For anyone interested in reading a study taken out regarding the above you should read this…some findings are actually quite scary.

Sorry for veering a little off topic there, but I thought it was necessary just to illustrate just how pointless this point is when you look at it being the flagship argument that is being used to constantly attack electronic cigarettes. The true fact of the matter is 99% of people who use e cigs will be aware of the lack of research but know they are a healthier alternative to smoking as they don’t contain the countless poisonous and carcious chemicals found in regular cigarettes.

David vs Goliath

David Vs Goliath Dogs

The way I see it is the tobacco industry have enjoyed making a ludicrous profit solely at the expense of its customers health for many years and they can start to see this diminishing very quick. Recent reports from a charity named Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) suggests 700,000 people in the UK were using e-cigarettes last year. The same report goes on to say it predicts that this number will reach a cool million in 2013. The tobacco industry is starting to lose an uphill battle and will use its power to try and squash the competition.

The End Of The Electronic Cigarette?

The most frightening thing here however is that The EU, which let’s be honest have a lot of influence and power, have put forward a new Tobacco Products Directive which would ultimately spell the end of electronic cigarettes for good. This new directive is said to have been designed to promote public health however put simply it will mean many will be condemned to their ongoing addiction to smoking tobacco and as a result will die. Am I the only one seeing the hypocrisy here? This will affect the 500 million residents of the 27 countries currently in the EU and restrictions and regulations within the directive regarding relatively new devices such as electronic cigarettes will ultimately see them banned. When you look at the figures regarding people who still smoke in the EU, which is around 7000,000, this directive is going to condemn a large proportion to their death.

Let’s take Sweden for example. A high percentage of the smoking population turned to a Swedish smokeless tobacco named Snus. Statistics show that only 16% of men smoke with the Swedish male population consuming more nicotine in the form of Snus then from cigarettes. Now let’s see who is sat at the bottom of the table for smoking-related diseases and deaths in Europe…oh wait its Sweden. The new directive will also strengthen the prior ban of Snus forcing many back to tobacco usage once again. Shocking!!!!

New Tobacco Products Directive A Joke

Tobacco Products Directive

But wait here’s the punch line…although to be honest it’s not very funny, the author of the Tobacco Products Directive (TDP) John Dalli is currently under investigation after an anti fraud inquiry linked him to an attempt to influence tobacco legislation. Yes you did just read that right…the guy who wrote the TPD is under investigation is on claims of soliciting bribes in writing the new directive that if it stands will kill off electronic cigarettes. The TDP directive will have to be renamed to something like Taxes and Death Protocol (Directive) as it seems the only thing that will be accomplished by this is to bring in an increased profit through the sales of tobacco and consequently deaths of millions because of the increased reliance of tobacco.

Please Share/ Like using the buttons to the right to show your support for Electronic Cigarettes and your stance against the proposed Tobacco Products Directive. Electronic cigarettes have saved countless lives in the few years they have been around – let’s make sure we don’t take a step backwards!!!

From Smoking Hot To Smoking Ugly. How Smoking Damages Your Looks

before and after smoking

Watch the animation above for a transition of a smoker before and after.

You Can Fag-et Looking Good If You Continue To Smoke

It is widely publicised how smoking causes damage to the inside of our bodies and the damage it can cause to internal organs and the respiratory system however not many people are aware of the effects it has on appearance. Below we talk about ways smoking affects your looks…

Smoking And Skin

A smoker’s skin is usually a dead give away that they smoke. Smoking affects the skin in two main ways:

Drying Effect

The tobacco smoke which is released through the process of smoking into the environment has a drying effect on the skin

Starving Of Oxygen

Psoriasis

Blood vessels are constricted thus depleting the skin of a sufficient supply of oxygen and vital nutrients.

Given that the average person maintains a healthily lifestyle they can be usually seen with a natural radiant glow however it is not uncommon for a smokers skin to have a grey, wasted, washed out appearance to it. Research has revealed that smoking may be responsible for the increased production of an enzyme that is known to break down collagen. Collagen is responsible for helping the skin to maintain its youthful elasticity appearance.

Other skin related skin problems caused by smoking can include Psoriasis, stretch marks and scarring.

Psoriasis

It would be unfair to point Psoriasis solely on cigarettes as it is an autoimmune skin condition however research shows smoking can greatly increase the chance of developing it.

Psoriasis occurs when the skin cells replace themselves too quickly. The cycle for new skin cells to form and replace the old ones is around 28 days however people suffering from Psoriasis see this process happen in around 2 to 6 days.

Stretch Marks

As pointed out above nicotine causes damage to the fibres and connective tissue in the skin which ultimately means it loses it elasticity. After a quick weight gain such as pregnancy many women develop a few stretch marks, however these are usually more harsh and visible with people that smoke.

Scarring

The nicotine which is found in cigarettes causes vasoconstriction which is the constraint of the blood vessels – the result of this means that your battle wounds and injuries will take longer to heal resulting in scars that are larger and redder than a none smoker.

The Yellow Look

yellow teeth

Everyone craves after nice white pearly teeth like their Hollywood heroes however for a smoker the nicotine in cigarettes causes staining and the yellowing of the teeth. Even though you can buy special formulated toothpaste for smokers which are supposed to combat this yellowing, many of these products haven’t shown any significant results. The only way to get your white teeth back is too pay for an expensive trip to your local dentist to get them whitened.

While we are on the topic of teeth it is also important to mention that smoking can cause oral cancer and gum disease. According to a study that can be found in the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, smokers are at more risk to develop gum disease which can result in tooth loss.

In addition to yellow teeth many smokers also possess yellow tinted fingernails and fingers. This yellowing can portray you as someone who has bad hygiene and is unkempt.

Hair Today Gone Tomorrow

It’s not just your skin that suffers at the hands of the cigarette. It is believed that the toxic chemicals in the smoke cause damage to the DNA in the hair follicles resulting in thinner hair. Also going grey and losing your hair quicker are also linked to smoking.

Bags Under Eyes

A study by John Hopkins reports that smokers are more likely to have sleeping problems than that of a none smoker. Why is this? Although there is no concrete reason as to why this might be the case it has been suggested that the nicotine withdrawal might be the culprit.

Cataracts

Even though many of us will develop cataracts to some degree or another in our lifetime, a smoker is more susceptible to developing cataracts over a none smoker. Smoking alone can increase the chance of developing the eye condition by up to 22%.

Accelerated Ageing

Back in your early teen years you may have wanted to look older, however once you cross that one way bridge and join adulthood you soon wish to recapture your earlier youthful appearance. Smoking limits the blood supply that is responsible for your skin looking healthily and vibrant – this results in the formation of deep wrinkles and lines on the face making you appear much older than you really are.

If you want to quit smoking there are many options open to you. Electronic Cigarettes are deemed the ‘modern’ way to beat the addiction. By mimicking the smoking habits and actions of a smoker these devices allow the user to gradually wean themselves off nicotine.

Manchester Officially ‘Red’ According To Latest Figures

Interactive Smoking Map

The city of Manchester is known throughout the world, and rightly so. It was the birthplace to the first computer, home of some of the most famous bands on the planet including the Stone Roses and Oasis and probably the most renowned reason…its two football clubs. Manchester United and Manchester City are sitting proudly at the top of the English Premier League table however this is not the only thing Manchester currently tops. The lyrics from Oasis band members Noel and Liam Gallagher which featured on their debut album, Defiantly Maybe,” I was looking for some action but all I found was cigarettes and alcohol’ seem quite fitting.

New figures released from the London Health Observatory (LHO) show that the city “recorded the highest rate for smoking attributable mortality in 2008-10 at 372 deaths per 100,000 population”.

The information from the LHO has been correlated and the results can be seen on a map of the UK which has used a coloured coded overlay to show:

  • Smoking attributable mortality (per 1000,000 population) 2008-10
  • Cost per capita of smoking attributable hospital admissions 2010/11
  • Smoking prevalence (IHS), 2011/12 Q1 – 2011/12 Q4
  • Smoking status at time of delivery (rate per 100 maternities), 2011/12

The colour coded map uses the colour white to show a low value number, which is good, compared to red which conveys a high value. The figures in the report also show that smoking related hospital admissions costs the NHS over 1 billion in 2010/11 which works out at £37 per capita.

Will James Bond Need A Licence to Smoke?

licence to smokeDr. No (Smoking)

The names Bond, James Bond. Never has there been such an iconic catchphrase in the British movie industry. James bond is notorious for his fast cars, super cool gadgets and his licence to kill smoke.

Ok maybe I made that last one up, but according to Australian public health expert, Prof Simon Chapman, a scheme which would require a smoker to pay for a licence before being able to purchase cigarettes is suggested as the latest in a bid to discourage smoking.

Smoking Test

It has been suggested that the application process for such a scheme could even include a test of some sorts to discover if the current smoker understands the implications and risks of smoking. The professor from the University of Sydney was quoted as saying it could be of interest to “high-income nations that are actively pursuing tobacco control goals”.

The problem we currently face is that every attempt to discourage smoking from educating our children through their school years to publicly creating awareness though stop smoking campaigns is that none of them have had any significant effect. This new scheme has been promoted as the next generation of anti smoking measures to truly discourage smoking once and for all.

The new scheme as it currently stands would work by utilizing a model that would in essence run parallel to the pharmaceutical model. Anyone in the UK cannot obtain restricted dugs without first being prescribed a prescription by their GP. Likewise a smoker would not be able to purchase tobacco products without access to this smoking licence.

Upon being awarded a swipe card a smoker would be limited to a set number of purchases daily – this could perhaps be around 50 or less.

Live and Let Die

Smokers could arguably point out that smoking is their right and that as long as they are smoking outside or within a designated smoking area they are doing no wrong. They could see this as an attack on them personally and another way for the government to squeeze an extra few pounds from their already shallow pockets. Is it fair that such a scheme should be put in place that solely targets and singles out tobacco when arguably this country also has a serious of alcohol related problems?

However there are rumours circulating that if such a scheme was to be put in place a quit incentive plan would be built in enabling a smoker to claim back all licence fees paid during the smokers licence history .

Licence To Kill

Around one billion people in this century are predicted to die from smoking related diseases. However there are those claiming that such a move would be playing into the hands of the tobacco industry. Making people take tests before being allowed a smoking licence is basically an insult to the intelligence of the smoker – at the end of the day an adult should have the choice to decide if he or she would like to smoke and how much they would like to do so.

Another important point raised was that what happens if a smoker runs out of his daily allowance for cigarettes? They are mostly likely to break the law and go underground and discover other means of acquiring the cigarettes illegally to feed their nicotine dependency.

Die Another Day

The fact of the matter is, if you smoke you are damaging your health. It’s not too late to quit and with the countless quit smoking methods and products on the market there has never been a better time to kick the habit. From going cold turkey, using the aid of NRTs such as nicotine patches and nicotine gum to purchasing an electronic cigarette there is something for everyone. E cigs are a natural replacement to the cigarette as they allow the user to mimic their smoking habits and actions only in a safer, more controlled manner. You can purchase a large range of  e liquid flavours online making every vaping experience fresh and unique . Start to live a healthier life style starting from today….quit smoking!!!

Are We Just Patching Up The Problem?

child wearing nicotine patch

Modern life is amazing right? It’s full of technical marvels and the once massive and mysterious world we see before us is rapidly getting smaller through advances in technology and transportation. We can surf the internet, board a plane and cross the world in a matter of hours and speak to people through video conferencing on the other side of the planet in real time. We only have to look back 100 years or so and it was clear things were very different. People lived and worked in their local town or village, you could only read the news from the local newspaper and children played outside with their friends.

baby shave in mirror

It’s a fact of life; children of modern times are crossing that passage from being a child to adulthood at a much more accelerated rate…or at least in their experiences and mental attitude anyway. Children used to have a special bond and a connection with nature and their innocence was what distinguished themselves from the corrupt and dangerous world around them. It seems the pressures of the modern world are eroding childhood and in essence what it means to be a child. They are subjected to increasing commercial pressures, start formal education a lot earlier and spend their free time glued to a computer screens. It seems the days where a child could be protected though controlled education and information is a distant memory – the internet for all its good means access to information is very easily obtained. We often hear that knowledge is a good thing and for the most part yeah this is true but what we have to ask ourselves is to what degree? We can’t just single handily point the finger at the proliferation of the digital world however, sure this may have exposed our children to adult content that otherwise they would have not have exposed too but there is more to the equation. We have also witnessed a shift in social values and attitudes and the latest permissive parenting approach warrants this kind of behaviour.

The latest story surrounding the attrition of childhood is centred on children that are as young as 12 being handed nicotine patches in schools by the NHS without the permission of their parents. These patches are being distributed by an NHS nurse who visits the schools around every 2 weeks to speak to the children in confidence.

smoking not cool poster

For the people reading this the first thing that they are most likely to find most shocking is the fact that the parents had not been informed….however the first thought that entered my head was “Why are children of 12 and nicotine patches even being used in the same sentence?” Seriously why? Children as young as 12 should not be smoking full stop. Many blame peer pressure as the primary cause but surely it has more underlining issues? If children still think that smoking is cool and are bullying others who don’t conform to their misguided values then we have failed as a nation to educate them properly.

We also have a problem between patient and doctor (nurse in this case) confidentiality. We can blame the parents all we want for not taking action and educating their children properly but if they are kept out of the loop and have no knowledge of their child smoking what do you suppose they do? NHS guidelines state that children as young as 12 can have access to nicotine patches from chemists and GPs throughout the country. Do these guidelines need to be re-amended? It seems whatever the answer the children of this country lose. We can stop giving out these patches to children of such a young age, but this will mostly likely just mean the child will continue to smoke or we can provide the patches which in a way is accepting that no matter what we do this will happen so let’s just chuck some nicotine patches out there and hope that solves the problem.

As stated earlier there are several problems that need to be addressed and tackled to solve this complex issue. While I would rather a child be using a nicotine patch then be actually smoking a cigarette I feel it is still unacceptable. What do you think? Do you think that patches should be available to a child of 12 or do you think parents should be made aware of the issue so they can deal with the problem themselves?

A Breath Of Fresh Air For The Children Of England

child asthmaIt probably comes as no shock to the majority of people reading this that new research has shown that children who are admitted into hospital with asthma has decreased substantially since the smoking ban came into effect back in 2007. In the first year alone after the ban was imposed there was a 12.3% decrease with further reduction with each passing year.

Research undertaken at the Imperial College, London, using NHS official statistics, has shown that the decline was equal to approximately 6,802 fewer hospital admissions within the initial 3 years since the law kicked in. If we average that per year we are looking at around 2,267. Wow, that’s a lot of children!! Taking a peak not too far into the past before the smoking ban existed, statistics tell us that children who were taken into hospital after suffering a severe asthma attack was on the increase by 2.2% annually, which in 2006/2007 peaked at a staggering 26,969. Looking at the before and after it is clear to see the trend has taken a sharp u turn with children living in all areas ranging from cities to those residing in rural areas benefiting from this ban.

second hand smokePersonally speaking looking at the above this fully justifies the smoking ban but then if you think about all the other people whose health has been improved due to not inhaling harmful second hand smoke then the only question that could be asked is why was this ban not imposed sooner?

What is interesting to note is that these findings are not just localised to England but studies from Scotland and even North America have shown similar results which firmly back up the legitimacy of these studies. They also go on to show that England has also seen a reduced rate of heart attacks.

cigarette graphic images

Recent attempts to discourage smoking saw the government try to implement a shock tactic approach by superimposing graphical images on cigarette packets which has had mixed results. The research concluded that the images made people ‘THINK’ about quitting and didn’t necessarily have the impact that the government thought it would. One woman went on to say that after herself and her two sisters had just witnessed their mother passing away due to lung cancer caused by years of smoking, the two sisters directly went outside for a cigarette. Other attempts have seen varying countries take the opposite approach of making their packages plain white, with the idea being that a plain packet is not appealing to the younger generation. Personally I feel that in a world where children and young adults are being exposed to stories through the media of violence and terrorism on a daily basis that they are becoming desensitised to the effect where graphical images will revoke no emotional or mental response from such pictures. I suppose this only leaves education as the primary vehicle to drive the message across. I also feel the people are less likely to quit if they feel they are only harming themselves, however if you can prove to them that they are in fact also putting their wife, children or even unborn baby at risk by lighting up then this may have a much more influential effect.

Tackling the UKs smoking problem is no easy task but figures such as these show that we are starting to address and deal with a very serious problem. Hopefully we are heading towards a smoke free world where smoking related diseases are nothing but a long distant memory.

There Isn’t Enough Room in This Town for the Two of Us

wanted poster saloon doors

NRT vs. E Cigs

The wind can be heard howling down the long desolate western town, a piece of tumbleweed can be seen gently dancing in the wind, the saloon doors creaking as they mysteriously open and close reminiscent of an old ghost town long forgotten with the passing of time. An eerie full moon breaks free from the cloudy sky above when two silhouettes appear from the haze. They stand motionless, just 20 feet apart from one another, both not breaking gaze…”This town isn’t big enough for the two of us”.

Whenever we pick up a magazine, read a hospital information pamphlet or view a quit smoking campaign approved nicotine replacement therapies (NRT) such as nicotine gum, nicotine patches and lozenges are publicized as the number one way to quit smoking. Even drugs such as Varenicline, also known as Chantix, has been medically approved by the powers that be which makes the stigma surrounding electronic cigarettes all the more confusing and unwarranted.

I think Id rather be addicted to nicotine!!!

Varenicline

Let’s just quickly take a look at Varenicline, a prescription medication used to treat a smoking addiction. It is claimed to have a higher success rate than that of NRT but at what cost? It has been well documented that users who have been prescribed this drug have experienced nausea, headaches, insomnia, abnormal dreams, vomiting, abdominal pains, flatulence, change in tastes and constipation. If that wasn’t bad enough in November 2007 the FDA claimed it had received reports stating that patients who were using Varenicline had experienced some worrying side effects including suicidal and erratic behaviour. The following year the FDA issued a follow up warning saying “it appears increasingly likely that there is an association between Chantix and serious neuropsychiatric symptoms”. Worrying right? How can something that has been linked with such serious side effects be medically approved whilst electronic cigarettes are given the cold shoulder?

Statistics dont lie

stats

According to online sources such as Patient.co.uk the success rate of NRT in the UK is around 17% with going cold turkey having a 5% success rate. Great…so we have the medical industry backing suicidal drugs and cessation methods that if we are honest have a very poor success rate. The problem with all these nicotine replacement therapies is that they only address the nicotine issue, which if you ask any smoker is only a fraction of the problem. The nicotine requirement is only one piece of the jigsaw, with the smoker’s habits completing the rest of the puzzle. These include:

  • The hand / mouth experience
  • The social element of smoking with friends and family
  • The actual smoking routine itself – smokers are normally quite regimented in there smoking routine.
  • The rewarding sensation that the brain has associated with smoking a cigarette.
  • The learned behaviour of acquiring nicotine via a specific process.

NRTs fail where E Cigs succeed

ecig

Where NRT’s and other quit smoking methods fail, electronic cigarettes succeed and with flying colours, they tick all the above boxes by allowing the smokers to fulfil all their smoking habits. The electronic cigarettes mimics a real cigarette allowing the users to satisfy there smoking requirements whilst not filling their lungs and the lungs of people around them with poisonous smoke. There is now research being conducted on electronic cigarettes in New Zealand to see if they can be classed as effective smoking cessation devices that are ‘safe’ for their intended use, we will be eagerly awaiting the results.

The War On Electronic Cigarettes

e cig war

It’s the old story of good vs. bad, hero vs. villain and electronic cigarettes vs. the media. I am sure if you are an avid vaper you will be all too aware of the occasional article wrote by the press claiming that electronic cigarettes are bad for your health.

Ok let’s just step back one moment and actually correlate the facts and take a look at the wider picture. The true fact of the matter is there has been limited research that has been performed on the e cig but out of all that research there has been no concrete evidence stating that they are detrimental to a users health and that they do not work in aiding a smoker to quit. This leads us onto the latest article which can be found on the Daily Mail entitled ‘Electronic cigarettes ‘DON’T help fight addiction and cause harm to health’. This article has been written on the back of a warning from the Italian Health Ministry stating ‘the e-cigarette as ‘less toxic’ but warned it was not ‘totally innocuous’.

Firstly the opening statement in that title ‘electronic cigarettes don’t help fight addiction’ is false and very misleading to the reader. After reading this article I was very interested to read the comments of others and I wasn’t surprised by what I read. All of the comments left behind backed up the electronic cigarette including ones from people who have used the device to help them to quit smoking.

Secondary ‘they cause harm to health’ is very relative. What doesn’t cause harm to people’s health nowadays? The irony here however is that while people are in full support of treatments like the supply of Methadone to help heroin addicts they condone electronic cigarettes to help nicotine addicts. While electronic cigarettes generally contain nicotine the difference is it can be controlled by the user. One of the best features of the e cig is the ability to slowly wean yourself off your dependence for nicotine by gradually decreasing the strength in the e liquid.

Another of the supporting arguments against the electronic cigarettes is that they can lead young people onto real cigarettes. Again this argument is invalid! Even though these devices are used by some socially they were initially designed to help people to stop smoking. If a young person decides to use the electronic cigarette as a fashion gadget to look ‘cool’ this is not the fault of the device itself but rather the user. While some people see video games as a means of entertainment others blame them for the increased violence seen in modern society. The point that is trying to be made here is that you cannot blame something for a fault that is on the user’s part – the fact of the matter is e cigs are effective at helping people to quit smoking as seen by the countless testimonials by users online who state that they do in fact work.

With around 100,000 people each year in the UK dying from smoking, smokers need all the help they can get to help them beat their addiction. What is your opinion? Do you think that electronic cigarettes are a helpful aid to help a smoker to quit or do you think they do more harm then good?

Why The End Of The World Will Still Happen

End Of The World

Well we have reached the big day. The countdown is long over and here we are at the 21st of December 2012. If you are reading this then chances are that you are not dead and the world did not end.

fibreglass ball

There has been countless end of the world prophecies ranging from 634 BCE to modern times but the little blue planet still defiantly keeps on spinning. Unsurprisingly there is still many yet come with the second coming of Jesus set between 2018 and 2028. Then if you manage to make it to the year 10100 CE it has been suggested that the universe will be diminished to a state of no thermodynamic free energy, therefore no longer being able to support life. So yes, if you are one of those people that have built a bunker in the ground or are hiding in a big giant sphere fibreglass ball that looks like a big marble (yes someone did actually do this, Google it) than I am sorry to let you know that this will not work and you have wasted your money.

I have my own theory about the Mayan calendar and I do think that they was predicting something big to happen in 2012…here’s how I think it goes. What the Mayans really predicted was the rise of the electronic cigarette so in fact it wasn’t the end of the world but the end of the world in which we knew it, or at least for smokers anyway.

rip cigarettes

Ok…maybe this isn’t true, but you don’t have to be an all foreseeing Mayan to predict that if you carry on smoking that you will die. The truth of the matter is for roughly half of adult smokers it isn’t a question of if the expensive little white stick will kill them but how it will kill them? This statement may well be a little hard to believe but contrary to belief if you are a smoker you are likely to die from circulatory or cardiovascular disease rather than lung cancer. This is the reason why many people slip under the radar, especially older people, when it comes to smoking related deaths. This is because they associate circulatory or cardiovascular disease with getting older and not with smoking.

So with 2013 just round the corner, if you are a smoker why don’t you take an active decision to make your new year’s resolution to quit smoking? I am a strong believer that a smoker’s greatest weapon to combat the addiction is the mind and will power, however if you do feel yourself needing a little helping hand than electronic cigarettes could be your answer.

Simply E Liquid has a range of electronic cigarette kits and over 50 e liquid flavours to suit everyone’s tastes. You can even purchase a DIY e liquid kit to make your own unique flavours opening up a unlimited possibility of customisation. So go on, make 2013 smoke free and start to live a healthier life.

Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year from everyone here at Simply E Liquid.
