End Of The World
Well we have reached the big day. The countdown is long over and here we are at the 21st of December 2012. If you are reading this then chances are that you are not dead and the world did not end.
There has been countless end of the world prophecies ranging from 634 BCE to modern times but the little blue planet still defiantly keeps on spinning. Unsurprisingly there is still many yet come with the second coming of Jesus set between 2018 and 2028. Then if you manage to make it to the year 10100 CE it has been suggested that the universe will be diminished to a state of no thermodynamic free energy, therefore no longer being able to support life. So yes, if you are one of those people that have built a bunker in the ground or are hiding in a big giant sphere fibreglass ball that looks like a big marble (yes someone did actually do this, Google it) than I am sorry to let you know that this will not work and you have wasted your money.
I have my own theory about the Mayan calendar and I do think that they was predicting something big to happen in 2012…here’s how I think it goes. What the Mayans really predicted was the rise of the electronic cigarette so in fact it wasn’t the end of the world but the end of the world in which we knew it, or at least for smokers anyway.
Ok…maybe this isn’t true, but you don’t have to be an all foreseeing Mayan to predict that if you carry on smoking that you will die. The truth of the matter is for roughly half of adult smokers it isn’t a question of if the expensive little white stick will kill them but how it will kill them? This statement may well be a little hard to believe but contrary to belief if you are a smoker you are likely to die from circulatory or cardiovascular disease rather than lung cancer. This is the reason why many people slip under the radar, especially older people, when it comes to smoking related deaths. This is because they associate circulatory or cardiovascular disease with getting older and not with smoking.
So with 2013 just round the corner, if you are a smoker why don’t you take an active decision to make your new year’s resolution to quit smoking? I am a strong believer that a smoker’s greatest weapon to combat the addiction is the mind and will power, however if you do feel yourself needing a little helping hand than electronic cigarettes could be your answer.
