The role that flavor plays is the important when it comes to vaping. In an ideal world, every single flavor of e-liquid would retain its fresh taste, but this isn’t how it works and not all e-liquids are created equal. In fact, there are quite a few flavors that can mess around with your perception of taste, and this is known as flavor fatigue. Flavor fatigue, or vaper’s tongue, is when you can’t tell what flavor your e-liquid is.
Vapour’s tongue actually doesn’t affect your taste buds or tongue. Plus, it is our noses that actually provides you with the taste of the e-liquid. Not many people realize that it’s not their mouth but their nose that allows them to taste the flavor.
The brain’s olfactory system is triggered when you smell something. At first, whatever you are smelling is going to be overpowering and strong, but your brain adapts. It does this to prevent your nervous system from becoming over stimulated. Eventually the brain will stop receiving the odor receptors and temporary sensory fatigue kicks in.
Picture going to a stranger’s home. At first, you may smell a funny odor. However, that funny odor starts to subside after a few minutes and eventually you won’t even notice it.
Everyone is affected by flavor fatigue in a different way. Some may experience it for a few hours or even a few days. In rare cases, people will experience it for weeks, and then they will be able to taste again. If you use the same flavors when you vape, then you will adapt and this means your e-juice will not taste the same or the flavor will just dissipate.
Dehydration can cause flavor fatigue. When we are dehydrated, then film starts to build up in the nasal passages, as well as inside the mouth and this blocks odors from getting to your olfactory receptors. If you suffer from chronic dehydration, then vaping will only make the symptoms worse, which means there’s a good chance of flavor fatigue kicking in sooner rather than later.
Preventing Flavor Fatigue
You can switch between e-juices if you want to prevent fatigue but keep in mind that you could end up spending a bunch of money on different flavors and you could spend more than you intended. Rotating between flavors will help you avoid flavor exhaustion and your olfactory senses will become sharper. If you don’t mind constantly switching your flavors, then go ahead and do it.
It’s important to drink plenty of water, preferably at least eight cups per day. If you vape regularly, then consider drinking more than eight cups of water daily. Not only that, but you should try to significantly reduce your alcohol intake because your sense of smell suffers when your blood alcohol levels rise.
Curing Flavor Fatigue
If you want to cure your flavor fatigue, then there are a few ways you can do it. You don’t have to quit vaping altogether and you don’t have to go out and search for expensive cures. In the next few paragraphs we will discuss how to cure it.
As mentioned earlier in this article, you need to stay hydrated, which means all day long you should be drinking water. Drink it while you vape too. Not only that, but exercise on a regular basis because this can help you improve your sense of smell. This is because when you workout, moisture will build up in your nose.
If you want to increase your sense of smell, then vape when you are hungry because your sense of smell is strong when you want food to eat. Consider using a humidifier too because it will increase your sense of smell. Feel free to vape while you have your humidifier on.
Your olfactory receptors may not be receiving smells because your nose is stuffy, so you should blow your nose or use a nasal spray that can unblock your nose. Make sure you speak with a pharmacist or doctor. They can tell you which one you should use.
Switch flavors if the flavors you are using are too strong or switch to stronger flavors if the ones you use are too mild. Also, you can use a clapton coil. This might give you a powerful blast of flavor, but you will have to build the coil yourself.
Smell some coffee beans because this may be what you need to get your sense of smell back. If this doesn’t do the trick, then any strong or bold scent should do it. Any coffee beans should work though.
Finally, you can shock your taste buds by eating things such as lemons, olives, sorbet and so forth. There are plenty of strongly flavored foods you can eat. If nothing seems to work, then drink some pickle juice or swish around some vinegar in your mouth, as this should shock your taste buds and improve your sense of smell.
