Nordic Spirit and ZYN are two of the biggest names in nicotine pouches, and at first glance they have a lot in common. Both give adult nicotine users a discreet, tobacco-leaf-free way to use nicotine without smoke or vapour, and both offer a substantial selection of flavours and nicotine strengths.
Look a little closer, though, and there are some important differences. ZYN has an especially broad selection at the lower end of the nicotine-strength scale, while Nordic Spirit offers a slightly higher maximum strength. The brands also take different approaches to pouch size, moisture and flavour.
So, which should you choose? In this Nordic Spirit vs. ZYN comparison, we'll look at the current ranges available from Simply ELiquid and explain where each brand stands out.

Product ranges can change.
Both Nordic Spirit and ZYN are nicotine pouches rather than traditional snus. The distinction is important because snus contains tobacco, whereas these pouches contain nicotine but no tobacco leaf.
The basic method of use is also the same. You place a pouch between your upper lip and gum and leave it in place while nicotine and flavour are released through the pouch. There's no need for a vape device, lighter or spittoon, and there's no smoke or vapour.
Both brands use plant-derived fibres as part of the pouch filling and offer flavoured products ranging from familiar mint profiles to fruitier options. Both manufacturers generally suggest a session of around 30 minutes, although exactly how the pouch feels and how quickly the flavour develops depends heavily on whether it's a dry or moist format.
This is one of the clearest differences between the two ranges.
Nordic Spirit is available in strengths of 3 mg, 6 mg, 9 mg, 11 mg and 17 mg per pouch.
At the top end, the 17 mg Max pouches make Nordic Spirit particularly relevant to experienced nicotine pouch users who find more moderate strengths unsatisfying.
ZYN currently starts substantially lower, with 1.5 mg, 3 mg and 6 mg Mini pouches. Stronger Regular pouches include 9 mg, 11 mg and 13.5 mg options at Simply ELiquid.
ZYN's low-strength 1.5 mg pouches are particularly relevant if you're looking for a pouch that offers a milder experience.
If you're an adult smoker or vaper moving to nicotine pouches for the first time, ZYN's 1.5 mg and 3 mg options make it easier to choose a relatively mild starting point. If you're already accustomed to stronger oral nicotine products, Nordic Spirit's 17 mg option gives it the edge at the other end of the scale.
Nicotine strength isn't the only factor affecting the experience. Moisture can change how quickly flavour and nicotine begin to release, while pouch size affects how noticeable the pouch feels beneath your lip.
Nordic Spirit offers Standard and Mini pouches along with both dry and moist formulations. According to Nordic Spirit, its Standard pouch measures around 35 mm long, while the Mini format is around 30 mm.
The moist range has a softer texture and begins releasing flavour more quickly because the pouch already contains moisture. Nordic Spirit's dry pouches rely more heavily on saliva for activation, giving them a slower, more gradual release and generally less “drip”.
This gives Nordic Spirit quite a bit of flexibility. Someone who likes a softer pouch and an immediate burst of flavour can choose from the moist range, while those who prefer something drier and more gradual have another option.
ZYN draws an especially clear line between its two formats. ZYN Mini pouches are dry and contain the lower nicotine strengths, while ZYN Regular pouches are moist and are used for the stronger products.
ZYN says its Mini pouches measure approximately 28 x 13 mm, compared with roughly 34 x 14 mm for the Regular format. Minis therefore sit very discreetly beneath the lip and provide a more gradual experience. The larger Regular pouches feel fuller and begin releasing flavour more readily.
In practical terms, ZYN makes the choice fairly simple: Mini generally means smaller, drier and milder; Regular means larger, moister and stronger.
There's no shortage of choice with either brand. Simply ELiquid currently lists 13 Nordic Spirit flavours and 12 ZYN flavours, although individual flavours aren't necessarily available in every strength.
Nordic Spirit has a particularly strong selection of fruit-based profiles. Current choices include Blueberry, Forest Berries, Raspberry, Melon Fresh, Tropical Mix, Watermelon and Zesty Pear.
There are plenty of mint options as well. Mint and Spearmint cover the more traditional end of the spectrum, while Frosty Mint and Frosty Berry turn up the cooling effect considerably. Sweet Mint adds a sweeter edge.
Dark Fizz is one of the more unusual Nordic Spirit options, combining cinnamon, vanilla and citrus for something quite different from the standard mint-or-fruit formula.
ZYN also covers the familiar bases with Cool Mint, Spearmint and Menthol Ice, alongside fruit options such as Black Cherry, Blackcurrant Frost, Blueberry Frost, Blueberry Mint and Red Fruits.
Where ZYN becomes particularly interesting is with some of the less predictable flavours. Citrus offers a sharper alternative to sweet fruit flavours, Coffee provides something completely different from the usual mint-and-berry selection, and Guava Spice combines tropical fruit with a warmer spiced sensation.
For an existing adult nicotine user who hasn't used pouches before, ZYN offers the gentler starting range. Its dry Mini format is available from just 1.5 mg per pouch, followed by 3 mg and 6 mg.
Nordic Spirit also has Mini options, including a 3 mg Dry Mini. Those are still relatively modest compared with the brand's stronger Standard pouches, but ZYN simply provides more choice at the very bottom of the strength scale.
If a pouch produces excessive tingling, hiccups, nausea or an otherwise unpleasant sensation, that's a good indication that the nicotine level may be too high. Moving down in strength is preferable to trying to “get used to” an unnecessarily strong pouch.
At the upper end, the difference is much smaller. Nordic Spirit reaches 17 mg per pouch, while ZYN's wider UK range reaches 16.5 mg. That's close enough that pouch moisture, flavour and personal preference may make more difference to the experience than the half-milligram gap.
For customers shopping specifically through Simply ELiquid, though, Nordic Spirit currently has the stronger listed option because the ZYN page tops out at 13.5 mg.
Stronger isn't automatically better. Higher-strength pouches are intended for people who already have substantial nicotine tolerance, and using more nicotine than you actually need is likely to make the experience less pleasant rather than more satisfying.
There's no convincing reason to declare an overall winner here. Both brands are designed around sessions of roughly 30 minutes, and moisture level has a significant effect on how the experience develops.
A dry Mini pouch tends to build more gradually, whereas a moist pouch produces flavour and sensation sooner. Nordic Spirit says its dry pouches generally provide a longer and more gradual experience than its moist versions. ZYN takes a similar approach, with dry Minis designed for gradual release and moist Regular pouches designed for a quicker, richer experience.
If longevity is particularly important to you, comparing format with format is therefore more useful than simply comparing Nordic Spirit with ZYN as brands.
There's currently nothing separating them on headline price at Simply ELiquid: both Nordic Spirit and ZYN cost £4.99 per can.
Pouch counts can vary by format. ZYN Regular cans contain 21 pouches and Mini cans contain 20, according to ZYN. Nordic Spirit's Standard and Dry Mini cans contain 20, while its Moist Mini format uses a smaller 14-pouch can. It's therefore worth checking the individual option rather than judging value solely by the price printed beside the product name.
Simply ELiquid offers free UK shipping on orders over £30, along with same-day dispatch for orders placed before 2 PM on weekdays.
Neither brand wins every category, which is probably a good thing — nicotine pouch preferences can be surprisingly personal.
Nordic Spirit makes the most sense if you want greater freedom to choose between dry and moist formats, enjoy fruit-heavy flavour ranges or need one of the stronger options available at Simply ELiquid. Its selection ranges from traditional Mint and Spearmint all the way to Zesty Pear, Tropical Mix and the cinnamon-and-citrus Dark Fizz.
ZYN is particularly appealing if you want a smaller or lower-strength pouch. Its 1.5 mg, 3 mg and 6 mg Mini range covers the lower end exceptionally well, while the stronger Regular range provides plenty of room to move up if you're already an experienced pouch user. ZYN also has several flavours that aren't easy to replicate elsewhere, particularly Coffee and Guava Spice.
If you're still undecided, flavour is a perfectly reasonable tiebreaker. Both brands are well established, both offer multiple pouch formats and both cover a broad spectrum of nicotine strengths. Pick the strength that matches your existing nicotine use first, then choose the flavour and pouch style you actually think you'll enjoy.
No. They're competing nicotine pouch brands with different flavours, strengths and pouch formulations. Nordic Spirit is part of JTI's nicotine pouch range, while ZYN originated with Swedish Match, which is now owned by Philip Morris International.
Nordic Spirit reaches 17 mg per pouch. ZYN's wider UK range reaches 16.5 mg, although Simply ELiquid's current ZYN range is listed up to 13.5 mg. For products presently listed at Simply ELiquid, Nordic Spirit therefore has the higher maximum strength.
ZYN has the lower minimum strength, beginning at 1.5 mg per pouch. Nordic Spirit's current Simply ELiquid range begins at 3 mg. ZYN therefore gives existing adult nicotine users more choice at the lower end of the scale.
No. Although nicotine pouches are sometimes informally called snus, traditional snus contains tobacco. Nordic Spirit and ZYN contain nicotine but no tobacco leaf.
Neither product contains tobacco leaf. The nicotine used in both brands is derived from tobacco plants, but the finished nicotine pouches themselves are tobacco-leaf-free.
Both brands generally recommend a session of around 30 minutes. Dry pouches tend to develop more gradually, while moist pouches usually begin releasing flavour and nicotine sooner.
No. Nicotine is addictive, and nicotine pouches are intended for adults who already use nicotine products. If you don't currently smoke, vape or use another nicotine product, there's no benefit in starting.
