Buying and Using Vape Pods

Learn how much replacement vape pods cost, which resistance to choose, how long pods usually last and how to prevent common problems such as leaking and burnt flavour.

How Much Are Vape Pods?

Empty vape pods typically cost about £5-10 per box and usually include 2-3 pods per package.

What Pod Resistance Should I Buy?

Many vapes have pods available in multiple resistances ranging from around 0.4 ohm to 1.0 ohm. Choose a lower resistance for vapour that’s warmer and more intense. A higher-resistance pod will produce vapour that’s cooler and smoother.

How Long Do Vape Pods Last?

A vape pod typically lasts about a week. Keep in mind that vaping at high wattages or using heavily sweetened e-liquid can shorten a pod’s life.

How Can You Make Vape Pods Last Longer?

To make your vape pods last as long as they can, always do these things:

  • After filling a new pod for the first time, wait at least five minutes before vaping to ensure that the cotton wick is completely saturated.
  • Don’t chain vape. After puffing on your vape, allow several seconds for the wick to absorb more e-liquid.
  • Vape at moderate wattage settings. The thermal stress from high-wattage vaping will cause the pod’s wick to break down more quickly.
  • Don’t let the pod get completely empty. Top it up when the e-liquid is below the wick openings on the side of the pod’s coil assembly.
  • Avoid heavily sweetened e-liquid. Sweeteners create residue that causes a vape pod to produce a burnt flavour.

How Do Vape Pods Work?

A vape pod consists of two main components: the e-liquid reservoir and the coil assembly. The coil assembly is inside a metal chimney that extends from the bottom of the pod to the mouthpiece.

When you fill the pod, e-liquid absorbs into the coil through holes on the side of the chimney. The coil turns the e-liquid to vapour, and more vape juice absorbs from the reservoir to replace it. This process continues until the pod runs out of e-liquid, and at that point, you’ll refill it.

How Do You Fill a Vape Pod?

Before you can fill a vape pod, you’ll need to open it. Vape pods have two different designs.

The pod may have a removable mouthpiece. In this case, you can open the pod by wiggling the mouthpiece until it comes off.

The pod may have a filling port covered by a silicone stopper. In this case, you can open the pod by lifting the stopper with your fingernail.

Once you’ve opened the pod, add your e-liquid through the filling port. Leave a little empty space at the top and close the pod securely.

Important: If you’re filling a new pod for the first time, wait at least five minutes before vaping.

Why Is My Vape Pod Leaking?

It’s normal for a small amount of moisture to condense on the underside of a vape pod. If you see a little dampness under a pod when removing it from your device, you can remove it with a cotton bud or paper towel.

If you see a large amount of e-liquid under the pod, dry it promptly and heed these tips to prevent your vape pods from leaking in the future.

  • Use gentle air pressure when vaping. A gurgling sound indicates that you’re puffing too firmly.
  • Don’t overfill your pod. Always leave a little room at the top, or the stopper will push e-liquid out of the pod when you close it.
  • Close the pod securely. Make sure that the mouthpiece or stopper is securely replaced.
  • Replace coils properly. If you’re using a vape pod with a replaceable coil, make sure that the coil is pushed all the way in.
