First of all I just want to point out that this data is from statistics collected on US people however the underlining message is consistent among all smokers no matter where they live.
The new statistic shows that after a lifetime of smoking a smoker on average will burn through $1.4 million in personal costs. Now something to take into consideration for UK smokers is that this amount also included medical bills for smoking related health problems, which in the US they have to personally fork out for whereas we in the UK have the NHS.
Another interesting finding was that smokers (again in the US) were earning less on average then there non smoking friends.
Maybe quitting smoking won't quite make you a millionaire her in the UK but there is no doubt as to the large amounts of money that can be saved by giving up the unhealthy habit.
